Shell Containers

IMG_6339Ok, beachcombers, you’ve spent your summer collecting a myriad of shells from all your travels, so now what can you do with them? Displaying them as containers not only provides instant catch-alls for cleaning up but also serves as reminders of fond times. Shells hold a variety of objects, regardless of size or shape. You can find a purpose for any shell. I change it up depending on the season, except for one shell that I found at a friend’s cabin on Puget Sound in Washington. That shell remains next to a sink and holds specialty soaps from other vacations.

I also display my shells in containers—preferably clear glass—sometimes separating them by size, shape, color, or location found. Both natural and candle light reflect nicely on glass, casting shadows and spotlighting distinct shells at various times. Mixing in pretty rocks, especially agates, gives even more depth and texture to your collection.

However you choose to display your shells, whether as containers or in containers, they’re sure to spark memories and conversation.
